
Figure 3 shows the relationship between the age of the HOH and sports expenditures. It appears that the median values tend to rise with age for sports spectating whereas they tend to fall with age for sports participation (with the €9.93 median sport participation spend in the 55-64 age group being an outlier). Intuitively this is what one would expect with older age groups spending more of their time and money attending sports events rather than participating. However the median spend on sports participation does not decrease considerably for older age groups (and there is also the 55-64 age group outlier) suggesting that there may be other factors at play here.
