After super Sunday, Graeme Souness was quick to point out that Manchester City are so effective at turning possession in to goals, and subsequently points.
I've posted a few weeks back on how Manchester United, oppositely, have struggled when in possession. The chart below plots the relationship between Premier League clubs average possession rate this season and their total points (R² = 0.38).
Liverpool have really been able to convert their high possession into points, Man City have not been able to replicate Liverpool's conversion rate.
Oppositely Newcastle's strategy has been successful - they don''t have the ball much but have still grinded out results. Norwich have seen plenty of the ball been haven't been able to convert this into more points.
