Export of horses from Ireland is relatively big business. The table below shows the value of exports of Irish foaled horses through auction for the period 2010 to 2013. There were 19,849 horses exported during this time and 14,525 of these were sold through auction. The total value of exports is €683m and Great Britain (75%) and France (15%) account for 90% of this value.
The average value of horses exports to the countries differs substantially. The average value of horses sold to Japan was €164,000 per horse. The next highest average value was €139,000 for the USA. The average value of horses exported to Great Britain was just under €50,000. The lowest average value is for the horses exported to Italy with a value of €13,000.
