The financial link between the State and the OCI primarily involves a grant the OCI gets from Sport Ireland (previously the Irish Sports Council). Sport Ireland operates at arm's length from the Minister for Sport - although it is primarily funded by the Minister's department. This financial link featured in many a news story. On August 15th the Irish Independent suggested the funding would be reviewed (here) and yesterday highlighted the daily Rio allowance received by Pat Hickey (here). The Irish Times, on August 16th, claimed the OCI got €1.7m over four years (here) whereas the Irish Examiner pointed out that the funding was worth €520k a year (here).
The Notes to the annual accounts of Sport Ireland (Irish Sports Council) lists the 2014 grant as amounting to €396,776. This represented 1.24% of all the listed grants. Below is a graph of the funding received by the OCI over the last decade.
