Rugby World Cup Ticket Prices

3/8/2015

By Robbie Butler

For those hoping to attend the upcoming Rugby World Cup, the following post may be useful. The ticket prices for the 2015 Rugby World Cup have been public for quite some time.

Upon making the information public, England 2015 Chief Executive Debbie Jevans said: "Today we are launching our ticketing plans so that fans understand the ticketing process for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. We want the tournament to be a celebration of rugby, encouraging more people to support and enjoy the game. We have a range of ticket prices for every budget - for fans and families who want to come to one of the world's greatest sports events. Our ticketing programme is built for fans who support the game week in, week out, while encouraging a new generation of rugby fans through the 2015 Rugby World Cup." The IRB Chief Executive Brett Gosper added: "This announcement represents a fantastic opportunity for fans around the world to experience what promises to be a very special Rugby World Cup. It is the day that they can start to plan. There are affordable and accessible options to suit every need."

Some key information about the pricing structure is as follows:
1. More than one million tickets for the Rugby World Cup will be made available at £100 or less and 500,000 at £50 or less.

2. Adult tickets start at £15 for pool matches and there will be child tickets available from £7 at 41 of the 48 matches.

3. Ticket prices will range from £7 to £315 for pool matches, £15 to £515 for knockout matches and £150 to £715 for the Final at Twickenham on October 31st 2015.
I looked at some additional data and came up with this. 13 locations will be used to host RWC 2015, with a combined capacity of 612,087. This will result in more than 2.5 million tickets being available for the 48 games. The group phase consists of 40 games. The pricing structure for these games is broken into six categories, and is across four different seating options (excludes child tickets). The first below presents this information.

Our second table should be of interest to fans supporting Ireland and is presented in euros (assumes exchange rate of £1= €1.42).
The minimum cost of following Ireland during the Group phase is €284 (all tickets in Category D). Maximum ticket cost just over €1,100. If Ireland were to progress, as expected, the cost will climb. The price structure for the Knock-out Phase is presented below:

If Ireland progress to the final, fans will have the (happy) problem of needing to find €213 - €1,015 for a ticket. The total cost of competing in every game including the final is presented below in euros:
