RTE carried a story today about a major BBC study that has found the minutes played by players from the Republic of Ireland in the English Premier League and the Championship have fallen over the last five years.
I did a similar piece in April, in light of comments made by Bobby Charlton expressed his concern about England’s chances of winning the World Cup again. Charlton said "The number of players we have to choose from is ridiculous…You need good players [to win the World Cup]. But if all the spaces at English clubs are taken by foreign players, you have no chance."
And yes, the Premier League does lack English player when compared to the other two top leagues in Europe, Germany and Spain.
