On the 8th of August 2013 I wrote a piece on Liverpool's Premier League chances. The analysis was in comparison to Manchester United's 26 year wait for a league title from 1968 to 1993. Prior to United's crowning in 1993 they endured some very disappointing seasons (1989 and 1990) only to finish second to Leeds in 1992 before winning the first Premier League league championship in 1993. I argued that Liverpool could possibly do the same.
The graphs below are an update of the August piece and plot both Manchester United and Liverpool league finishing positions. Liverpool's performance this year has been called a 'new dawn' with expectations for next season already sky high. It remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club can actually push on and finally regain the league title but should they do so their fall and rise will be remarkably similar to that of United's 25 years earlier.
