This post examines expenditure by household classified by the gender of the head of household. Figure 2 presents the expenditure differences between households where the head is classed as either male or female. The expenditure is for the household and the classification of the household is based on the gender classification of the head of the house as listed on the Household Budget Survey.
Figure 2 shows that households with a male head of house spend more on both type of sports related goods. The gap is larger with respect to sports spectating expenditures. This is not too surprising a result. Interestingly the gap is not significant when it comes to participation purchases. Here there is little difference between the expenditures. It should be remembered that these are all expenditures by those in the household and not just the male and female members.
